Cowra Art Group Inc.

Cowra Art Group Inc. promoting excellence in visual and textile arts.

The Cowra Art Group was formed in 1962 and functioned for years in the old school building in Vaux street. It moved to the present position in 1988 when the Cowra Shire Council commenced its Centenary of Local Government Centre complex in West Cowra.
The group caters for anyone with creative interests who likes to work in friendly groups. The visual arts practiced include traditional and contemporary painting, china painting (currently in recess), embroidery, quilting and various other creative techniques.
The Art Group now retains rooms in the Visitor Information Centre building. Any interested person is welcome to visit while members are working there.

Painting
Although some members are professional artists, most are hard working amateurs – many even complete beginners.
Ann Stanley, an enthusiastic and highly qualified teacher, conducts art classes for members of the group. Each of her students is encouraged individually to a high standard of achievement, however places rarely become available.
A display of work from these artists is currently held in the Japanese Gardens each year around july.
Apart from periodic displays in the Visitor Centre, the group conducts a competitive Biennial Exhibition in the Cowra Regional Art Gallery which is open to artists within 100km radius of Cowra. This is generally staged in August/September each year.
The work room is available Monday mornings from 10am for artists who wish to work together in a friendly studio atmosphere.

Textile Art
Members meet together in a friendly atmosphere, each working at their own individual project. There are no regular tutors, but whenever possible workshops or demonstrations area arranged to fill a need or request. These are held throughout the year and all members are encouraged to participate.
Alternatively, years of practice in their chosen sphere enables members to help each other in a wide variety of techniques.
Meeting times: Tuesday mornings from 10am

Quilting
Quilters, using both hand and machine techniques, meet in the work rooms twice a week. These are social groups who work in a friendly environment and stimulate one another. Tutored Workshops are planned for this year.
Meeting times:
Tuesday night 7pm – 10pm
Friday mornings from 9.30am to 3pm

China & Glass Painting
China painting has been a long-established art among members. It has been inactive, but members are planning to revive their Thursday morning group. The group has its own kilns, (a small fee is charged for the firing of china and glass), so should there be sufficient interest, the activity can be immediately recommenced.
