Lachlan Valley Railway is a non-profit, railway preservation society based in the NSW Central Western town of Cowra. We are a passionate and dedicated society devoted to the preservation and operation of various examples of New South Wales Government Railway trains, ranging from our operational steam and diesel locomotives, to our fleet of heritage passenger railway carriages, and our diesel ‘Tin Hare’ CPH railmotors.
This is a unique Railway museum featuring an authentic (circa 1923) Locomotive Depot and Steam Roundhouse. A modest admission fee applies to the museum, with special rates available for large groups. Light refreshments, videos, books and souvenirs can be purchased from the main entry building. Barbecue facilities are available on site as are toilets and rest areas. Guided group tours can be arranged by prior arrangement.
Whilst there are currently no trains running out of Cowra, Lachlan Valley Railway Society is in negotiation with the State Government to lease the lines in order to operate freight and tourist trains once again. We hope to be able to update this page soon with details.
