History
Building applications lodged to the Cowra Shire Council by a firm called
Paynter and Dixon for the erection of a proposed Hotel/Motel on the site directly behind the “Royal Exchange Hotel” were approved on 15th Feb 1965.
A syndicate of local identities purchased the “Royal Exchange” and took the responsibility for the new hotel being erected.
Ten units were erected adjacent to the already existing motel and were opened to the public on the 15th of November in 1965. This bought the total number of accommodation suites to thirty four.
At this stage the hotel section (in front of the units) was not quite complete but was completed by the end of November.
The demolition of the “Royal Exchange Hotel”, which had served Cowra for 77 years was commenced in December 1965. This allowed off street parking in front of the new “Lachlan Valley”.
In July 1966, Mr Jock McDiarmid who had been in charge of the adjacent motel for three years took over the management of the “Lachlan Valley Hotel/Motel” and the license was transferred from the “Royal Exchange”.
In 1974, carpets, sound proofed acoustic ceilings and two new pool tables were installed. This is how the hotel stands today.
