History

Built in 1961 the “Travelana Hotel Motel” was built like old English style taverns, with sloping roofs. The cream coloured bricks were made at the Cowra Brickworks, this being the first deviation from the Cowra “Red”. The Travelana Hotel Motel consisted of two floors. The ground floor comprised of a foyer, dining room, saloon and public bars and a large lounge capable of seating one hundred people. On the top floor the layout consisted of a large conference room with a buffet and small bar highlighted by an outdoor terrace with shrubs and other greenery. Behind the front hotel section “U” shaped motel units were erected with all rooms opening onto an inner courtyard with lawns and a kidney shaped swimming pool for the comfort of guests and travellers.

During construction a temporary bar was set up before work commenced on the demolition of the “Club House Hotel” in December 1961. The project was completed in June 1962 and was opened on 1st May with Mr. and Mrs. Wall managing both the hotel and motel sections of the inn. A bay window coffee lounge and bottle store added to the colonial atmosphere.

On the 9th of March 1978 an application to change the name from “Coach House Motor Inn” to “Town House Motor Inn” was granted.
