Cowra Wine Experiences
Cowra is home to some of the most exceptional wine tasting experiences in NSW. From garage cellar doors to distinct historical buildings
and vineyard art galleries, our vineyards are an enriching encounter. And that’s before you’ve taken a sip of some of the country’s most outstanding wines!
Warm days, cool nights and dry, late summers allow our vignerons to grow superior grape varieties. Their passion for perfection has resulted in many accolades, including “Best Red” in NSW and many other gold medals and trophies in Australia and overseas.
The original variety to be grown in Cowra in the 1970s was the Chardonnay grape. This classic and flavoursome Chardonnay established Cowra as a quality grape growing region. Soon after, Shiraz, Semillon and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties were planted. In recent years, the region’s enterprising vignerons have produced some excellent wines from different varieties such as Sangiovese, Mourvedre and Tempranillo.
Today, there are over 40 vineyards dotted around the Cowra, Billimari and Canowindra area.
Many of them offer boutique cellar door tastings, the chance to chat to local vignerons, see our winemakers at work and sample some of this country’s most promising wines.
Did you know?
Leading wine critics are continually heaping praise on our region. Four local wines were named in James Halliday’s top 100 NSW wines. Wine critic Chris Shannahan of The Canberra Times wrote about the region saying “they have the advantage of making realistically priced, soft, easy to drink wines”. So get in quick, before our secret is out.
